God is the Perfect Valentine

When I was in 5th grade, there was a girl in my class by the name of Binkie Westdale (what kind of name is "Binkie" anyhow?), who had a major crush on me. Needless to say, my feelings for Binkie were not the same. I tried to be nice, but Binkie seemed to have a special talent for getting on my nerves! On Valentine's Day, all my fellow classmates gave and received the usual miniature sized Valentine cards. All except for Binkie, that is! Binkie had the audacity to give me a regular sized Valentine's Card in front of the entire class! (as I recall, it was a special Valentine's card from McDonald's featuring a purple Grimace carrying a large heart with the words "Be My Funny Valentine"). Everyone began to tease me and call me Binkie's boyfriend! I was totally embarrassed! I insisted to everyone that I was not Binkie's boyfriend and proceeded to demonstrate this fact by tearing up my card into tiny pieces and throwing them into the garbage can. Almost immediately I felt guilty for my insensitivity and my guilt only increased when Binkie began to cry. Even to this day, I feel badly about how I had hurt poor Binkie. Unrequited love can be quite painful! There is one love, however, that will never let us down, and that is the love of God. God is the perfect Valentine, where love never fails. His love for you was such that He sent His only begotten Son to suffer and die on the cross in your place. Through the Holy Spirit calling you through the Gospel, He invites you to "Be Mine" through saving faith in Jesus Christ. In his letter to the Church of Ephesus 3:17-19, the apostle Paul prayer "... that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God." My prayer for the members and friends of Messiah is the same. May you also "grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ" is for you.
